Amista 2015 Syrah

2015 was a standout vintage here in Dry Creek Valley and our 2015 Syrah is a great example of that. On the nose, notes of wet forest floor mingle with ripe black cherry, vanilla and a hint of baking spices. The palate is fruity with subtle oaky notes. The vanillin carries all the way through. I love this slightly riper and concentrated vintage of Morningsong Syrah. The tannins are present but well-integrated. This wine is easy-drinking on its own but would pair perfectly with grilled tri-tip or a hearty Bolognese.

Vineyard Notes
2015 was our 4th year of very dry weather in Sonoma County. The lack of water brought a very small crop, with a huge concentration and depth of flavors in the final wines. Even though yields were small, flavors were beautiful from this vintage.
Winemaker Notes
The Morningsong Vineyard Syrah was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted both in the vineyard and in the winery before being de-stemmed and left whole berry and put into an open top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 4 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 11 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to 25% new French and American oak and the remainder used oak barrels where it completed malolactic and was racked twice in the 15 months before being bottled.
