Our 2016 Saini Farms Zinfandel is brimming with juicy fruit notes: raspberry puree, black cherry, and blueberry jam. Black pepper and hints of pink peppercorn linger on the nose, along with a hint of cinnamon spice. The palate is full of deep, rich blackberry pie filling. The tannins are hefty on this wine and finish delicately with a whisper of acidity and a lingering of the pie filling flavors. This is a vintage that will age quite beautifully. 289 cases made

Gene's Block, Saini Farms, Dry Creek Valley
Healdsburg, California in the heart of Sonoma wine country
2016 finally brought much needed rain to Sonoma County, temporarily ending our drought woes. The water helped the vines immensely and we had a beautiful growing season from bloom to harvest. The crop size was about average. Flavors were really beautiful overall from this vintage as well. This year was definitely a standout.
Winemaker Notes
The Saini Farms Gene’s Block Zinfandel was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted once in the vineyard and once in the winery before being de-stemmed and left whole berry and put into an open-top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 4 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 14 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to a mixture of new and neutral French oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation and was racked just once in the 15 months before being bottled.
