Healdsburg, California, in the heart of Sonoma wine country
Fresh summer melon, white peach, and sugared almond make up the aromatics of this pretty vintage of Chardonnay. The front palate starts with peach nectar, dried apricot and a touch of honeydew melon. Delicate notes of honeysuckle and Meyer lemon zest linger on the palate. The mouthfeel is round and lush and really wonderfully balanced with a good dose of acidity on the finish to bring it all together. This may be one of my favorite vintages of Chardonnay that we’ve made!
Vineyard Notes
2018 was a beautiful and pristine vintage in Dry Creek Valley and Sonoma County. We had a moderately wet winter with a very even growing season. The crop was fairly large across the board, but this Chardonnay comes from a younger block which was not affected yet by crop size. The even warmth without any serious heat spikes or inclement weather led to a two week longer than normal hang time for this Chardonnay.
Production Notes
We picked our Chardonnay grapes by hand starting at daybreak and hand sorted in the vineyard immediately. We took them to the winery while still cold and whole cluster pressed using a champagne style press cycle. The juice went straight from the press into neutral French oak barrels for a three-week fermentation. After fermentation, the barrels were topped up and left on primary lees for the duration of its life until bottling. After 11 months in barrel, the barrels were combined into a tank and bottled.
