Amista Vineyards

Amista 2021 Syrah

Amista 2021 Syrah

This Syrah is so lovely and really is a nice showcase of a wonderful vintage. Aromas of brambly red berries, dusty red earth, clove, some sandalwood, and lots of violets and purple floral notes. The palate is filled with flavor, starting with dried plum, fig jam, black pepper, leather and iron. The tannins are strong but juicy and well balanced. This wine is absolutely delicious right now but will age beautifully.

Vineyard Notes
2021 was a beautiful vintage. The winter was quite dry with far lower than average rainfalls but we had a few spring rains that helped us out. The growing season was warm but very even and without any adverse weather events. We picked slighlty earlier than average but because of the very small crop this vintage, flavors are intense and concentrated.
Production Notes
Our Syrah is hand picked and brought into the winery. We destem and put into an open top tank. The grapes are cold soaked for 4 days to extract flavor and color from the skins and then were fermented with indigenous yeast. After 11 days on skins, the wine was drained and pressed and went to neutral oak barrels for 16 months
Winemaker Notes
This fruit comes from the oldest block planted on our property, our Syrah. Planted by Mike and Vicky when they first bought the property in the year 2000, this block has a North-South row facing and is cordon pruned.
