Tasting Notes
Our 2020 Syrah is a vibrant deep purple hued wine. The aromas are of roasted plum, dusty red soil notes, warm baking spices, and a touch of wet earthiness. The palate is bold in flavors but very smooth with dusty but very well integrated tannins and a very balanced finish.
Vineyard Notes
2020 was a vintage to remember. From early on in 2020, the vintage was quite warm. Bud break and set happened very smoothly and the crop size was considerably smaller after two large vintages. In the vineyard, all our varietals were concentrated in yields.
This fruit comes from the oldest block planted on our property, our Syrah. Planted by Mike and Vicky when they first bought the property in the year 2000, this block has a North-South row facing and is cordon pruned.
Winemaker Notes
Our Syrah is hand picked and brought into the winery. We destem and put into an open top tank. The grapes are cold soaked for 4 days to extract flavor and color from the skins and then were fermented with indigenous yeast. After 11 days on skins, the wine was drained and pressed and went to neutral oak barrels for 16 months
